Fletchers Lookout

Overview

Fletchers Lookout is a cliff‑edge viewpoint on the Wentworth Falls walking network, a short signed detour from the main track near Weeping Rock. It’s one of the closest vantage points to the top of Wentworth Falls, pairing waterfall drama with sweeping Jamison Valley views.

What You’ll See

• Wentworth Falls up close from the upper platforms, with the creek sliding toward the brink.
• Broad Blue Mountains scenery from the lower vantage, including Mount Solitary, the Narrow Neck escarpment, and even Kings Tableland on the horizon.
• A classic sandstone escarpment setting carved by water over millions of years.

The Walk

Expect a formed, clearly signposted track with many steps. The spur to Fletchers Lookout is short, and you can easily fold it into a small loop or a longer Wentworth Falls circuit. It’s a moderate outing with stairs that rule out prams and will test tired legs on the climb back. Allow roughly 45 minutes return for the shorter circuit if you’re just ducking out and back.

Safety and Conditions

Hidden cliff edges are a known hazard along this section—stay on track and supervise kids. After rain, sections can be muddy and slick. Some fencing is older and parts of the area aren’t fully fenced, so keep your wits about you near edges.

Best Time to Visit

For waterfall punch, a couple of days after rain is ideal, but avoid visiting during or immediately after heavy rain when steps and rock are slippery. Crowd patterns favor early mornings; mid‑day to mid‑afternoon tends to be busiest, especially on weekends. Weekday mornings are typically the quietest.

Wildlife

Typical Blue Mountains bushland surrounds the lookout—keep an ear out for lyrebirds and cockatoos, and watch for wallabies. Wildflowers brighten the track in season.

Make the Most of It

The lookout has benches and an information board, but no facilities—use parking, restrooms, and picnic tables at the Wentworth Falls picnic area before you set out. From Fletchers you can continue to other nearby lookouts or carefully cross Jamison Creek above the falls when conditions allow. Check current park alerts before you go.
