Weeping Rock

Weeping Rock is a low cascade where Jamison Creek spills over a broad sandstone ledge into shallow pools, upstream of the much taller Wentworth Falls. It is a worthwhile close-up stop on the circuit, though the linked lookouts are part of the reason to go. The rock shelves can be slippery, and the pools may be unsafe after heavy rain or flooding.

The marked Wentworth Falls circuit is a 1.6 km loop that takes about an hour and is graded 3. From the picnic area it links Jamison and Wentworth Falls lookouts, Fletchers Lookout, the top of the main falls and Weeping Rock. Expect a formed, signposted path with short steep hills and many steps, including around 200 steps down toward Fletchers; the Weeping Rock section is gentler than the main descent. The circuit is not wheelchair accessible, and pets are prohibited except certified assistance animals.

Start at Wentworth Falls picnic area at the end of Falls Road, reached from the Great Western Highway. It has parking, accessible spaces, overflow parking on Falls Road, picnic tables, barbecues, drinking water and flush toilets; spaces can be limited on weekends and holidays. There are no bins, so take rubbish out. Conservation Hut café is about 800 m from the picnic area, a separate stop. Check alerts before setting out because sections may close for maintenance, poor weather or fire danger; mobile reception is limited.

Look for water spilling from the overhang and spreading across the flat rock shelves; the metal stairs beside the cascade bring you close. Jamison Creek flows over Weeping Rock and then feeds Wentworth Falls, which drops about 100 m into the valley. Freshwater crayfish may be hiding near the stairs.
