Hiking Rocket Point lookout track

A short walk with real stepsRocket Point lookout track is a 2.

Rocket Point lookout track is a 2.4 km walk from Wentworth Falls picnic area to Rocket Point and back, with a short circuit around the lookout. It follows Wentworth Falls Track to Queens Cascade, then climbs to the cliff-edge view above the falls. The route is listed as a loop, though the directions also allow returning the same way or joining other tracks back to the picnic area. This guide follows the clearly described access to Rocket Point and the lookout circuit; count 2.4 km as the whole walk, including the return, not as a one-way distance. Allow 45 to 90 minutes. Grade 3, it is short but has plenty of steps and a steep climb.

From the picnic area, the signed access starts about 300 m along a sealed road. The track descends to stepping stones at Queens Cascade, the upper lip of Wentworth Falls. After crossing, it climbs steeply through fern- and moss-lined forest, then opens into heath. The path is formed and clearly signed, but has many steps and some obstacles. Take your time at the cascade crossing and on the climb; the short distance can make the effort easy to underestimate.

Give the lookout a minuteRocket Point looks across Wentworth Falls and the broad Jamison Valley.

Rocket Point looks across Wentworth Falls and the broad Jamison Valley. The waterfall drops in several stages below the lookout, with forested cliffs on either side. This is a good spot to stop for a picnic if you brought one. For a photo, include the full fall with the valley below it; a tight crop of the cliff loses the scale of the view.
