• Broad valley-and-ridge panorama oriented across the Lyndhurst/Stuart’s Draft area toward Torrey Ridge.
• Chestnut oak woodland framing the scene—pretty greens in spring and summer, and standout color in autumn.
• In season, expect wildflowers with busy bees and butterflies working the slopes.

Geology Snapshot

Catoctin Greenstone—the metamorphosed remnant of ancient lava flows—is common here. Those greenish, durable outcrops give this overlook a bit of geologic personality compared to others along this stretch.

Why Stop Here vs. Others

If Ravens Roost feels claustrophobic or overrun, this overlook often isn’t. The view is similar in feel—sweeping and photogenic—without the crush, making it an easy win on a Parkway drive.

Practicalities

• Parking is very limited (roughly six vehicles). There are no restrooms, picnic tables, or trails—this is a true pull-off and photo stop.
• Plan a short visit with your own water and snacks; cell service can be spotty.
• Open year‑round whenever the Parkway is open.

Best Time to Visit

Sunrise and sunset deliver the best light across the valley, and fall foliage season can be superb (arrive early then to snag a spot). Weekdays generally stay mellower than weekend afternoons.
