Overview
The Mountain Farm Trail is an easy walk from the Humpback Rocks Visitor Center through a recreated 1890s Appalachian farmstead. It is a compact cultural-history stop rather than the steep Humpback Rocks hike, with cabins, outbuildings, and interpretive exhibits along the way.

Trail guide
This is an approximately 0.25-mile one-way path from the visitor center through the farm toward the Humpback Gap and trailhead area. Plan on about 0.5 miles total when you return over the same corridor; the mapped line is about 0.27 miles one way. The route is a slightly inclined gravel and dirt path with a short hill and some uneven surfaces near the farm buildings.
The route passes a log home and historic outbuildings including a chicken house, root cellar, barn, hog pen, spring house, rail fencing, and a demonstration garden. Interpretive exhibits explain how Appalachian families grew, stored, prepared, and preserved food before electricity and indoor plumbing.
The farm is a good short family stop with benches and signage. If you want a strenuous climb and views, use the separate Humpback Rocks trail from the nearby Humpback Gap trailhead rather than extending this farm walk onto that route.
