Trail guide
Strone Road Walk is a 1.5-mile (2.4-km) loop around the northern edge of Newtonmore, following minor roads and pavements through crofting land. Allow about an hour. It suits a short outing from the village with open mountain views; the long moderate slope means it is more than a flat town stroll.
Start at Granite House on Main Street. The circuit heads east along the village road, bends north around Strone, then returns through Newtonmore. Expect surfaced road and pavement rather than a continuous off-road path. Cattle grids have gates; close them behind you and keep dogs under close control on farmland.
Cairngorm and Braeriach rise to the east, with Strone moor to the north and west and Drumochter Pass to the south. Those open views are the payoff; this is a village-edge road walk, not a rough mountain trail.
