Rockside Station

Rockside Station is the northern gateway to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, tucked beside the Cuyahoga River and canal corridor. It’s the convenient launch point if you’re coming from the Cleveland area, with plenty of parking and a purpose-built station that orients you to the valley’s rail-and-canal story.

What You’ll Experience

Most visitors come to board scenic excursions that roll through the heart of the valley. From your seat, expect a relaxed ride past forest, river, and canal views, with a real chance to spot white‑tailed deer, great blue herons, bald eagles, beavers, and seasonal flocks of waterfowl. Volunteers often share tidbits about what you’re passing and the railroad’s past.

The station offers straightforward comforts: restrooms (vault/composting), benches, a baby‑changing station, bike racks, maps, and interpretive displays about the area’s rail history. Parking is free and accommodates both cars and buses/RVs.

Trails and Nearby Access

If you’re not riding, Rockside still makes a handy jumping‑off spot. The Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail and the Cuyahoga River Water Trail are accessed at Lock 39 Trailhead just across the river, giving you options to walk, run, or bike before or after your visit.
