Best time to go

The cabins and Windigo services operate seasonally, and the store is not a year-round stop. There are just two cabins, so arrange your lodging and island transport ahead of time. Check the current season dates before you book; this is seasonal lodging, not a year-round option.

Windigo Camper Cabins are two rustic, one-room cabins on Isle Royale's west end. They offer a sheltered, bed-based stay near the harbor instead of a tent; each sleeps up to six, and the dock is about a five-minute walk away. With only two cabins on an island reached by boat or seaplane, plan the reservation around your trip across Lake Superior.

Each cabin has bunk beds, a full-size futon, a table and chairs, electrical outlets and lighting. Outside, there is a picnic table and propane grill. There is no indoor plumbing: a water spigot and privy are nearby, and guests use shared outdoor restroom facilities. Cooking is for the outdoor grill, not inside the cabin.
