Trail guide
Circle the Village is an easy, low-level 2-mile (3-km loop around St Fillans, about 45 minutes. It links the River Earn footbridge and weir, South Loch Road, light woodland on the former railway and a Loch Earn finish. Watch for red squirrels, osprey, red and roe deer, kingfishers and beavers.
Start at the Village Information Point by the footbridge near the Village Store. Cross the bridge, turn right past the war memorial and follow the path to South Loch Road. Turn left; after about half a mile past the weir and golf club, bear left over old Dundurn Bridge to the A85. Turn left toward the village, then right onto Station Road beyond Little Port Farm and the park sign. Keep right toward the caravan park and take the signposted path before the old railway bridge. After 50 metres, turn left at the Pensive Grouse sign toward the play park. Before its entrance, fork right onto the faint path beneath the embankment; follow it behind gardens to Sandison Hall.
Cross the hall car park, descend the ramp and turn right behind Achray House. Follow the track behind houses to the main road by the Four Seasons Hotel; turn left to return. The faint fork is easy to miss, and the narrow rocky path has gates. Cross the A85 with care. Near the hotel, the roadside opens to a long view up Loch Earn; include the shoreline to lead the eye toward the hills.
