Trail guide
Hinkley Wood Route is a short walk from St Bertram’s Bridge at Ilam Park. The mapped path leads west from the bridge toward Hinkley Wood; retrace the same corridor to return. Allow around 20 minutes for roughly three-quarters of a mile in total. It is a small estate walk that fits neatly into a visit to Ilam Park.
Hinkley Wood is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, noted for its small-leaved lime, large-leaved lime and their hybrids. The woodland is the point of the walk: a chance to see a locally notable lime community on a short outing from the estate. It suits visitors looking for a focused nature stop during a visit to Ilam Park.
Begin at St Bertram’s Bridge, the named start of the route. Use Ilam Park car park and follow the estate paths to the bridge. Dogs are welcome on a lead. Ilam Park’s tea-room and toilets are nearby estate facilities, so plan to use them before or after the walk; no facilities along the trail were verified.
