Trail guide
This is a 1 km (0.6 mile) loop through the parkland around Ilam Hall, starting and finishing at the Stable Yard. It is an easy half-hour outside rather than a substantial Peak District hike; the reward is a relaxed look at the grounds and a view toward Thorpe Cloud.
The paths were widened, resurfaced and extended, and benches sit at intervals along the circuit. The mapped loop uses gravel paths and short asphalt links. It opens up parts of the grounds that were harder for some visitors to reach, but detailed gradients and surface-by-surface access measurements are not published. The welcome point has a site map with the easy-access path marked. Keep an eye out for the hillside view as you circle the hall.
Begin at Stable Yard, where the tearoom, second-hand bookshop and toilets are. Ilam Park car park is about 100 m away by a tarmac path with a slight slope; four designated accessible spaces are listed. Dogs are welcome on lead in the grounds. Allow about 20 to 30 minutes, leaving longer to rest at a bench or visit the tearoom.
