Royal National Park, NSW
A hard walk linking two stations over cliffs, creeks and forest ridges.
Overview
A one-way walk of about 12.5 km between Otford and Helensburgh stations through the southern Royal National Park. The route climbs to Otford Lookout and follows the coastal headland before turning inland over wooded ridges and dropping through creek gullies; allow about five hours for this hard outing. This listing follows the inland line via Otford Lookout and Garawarra Farm. A longer Burning Palms variant is a different walk, so do not join it to this route.

Trail guide
Leave Otford Station up its steep access to Station Road and Fanshawe Road, then climb to Otford Lookout. Follow the cliff-side path before turning inland through coastal scrub and forest toward Garawarra Farm. At the signposted Cliff and Burgh junction, take the Burgh descent to Lady Wakehurst Drive. Cross the creek on boulders, then follow the Hacking management trails toward Halls Road. Roads and footpaths lead through Helensburgh; reach Wilsons Creek Road and take the marked steps down to the station.
Expect around 454 m of ascent over a long day walk, with steep and rough sections, extended management tracks and a rocky creek crossing. The cliff section gives the standout ocean view; farther inland, the walk changes to shaded forest and ridge terrain. The crossing needs steady footing and should not be attempted when water is high or moving strongly.
This is a station-to-station walk, not a loop; plan transport between Otford and Helensburgh or arrange a pickup. The route line reaches Wilsons Creek Road near the station steps. Dogs are not allowed in NSW national parks. Check park alerts and maps before setting out.
