Skyland Stables runs the park’s guided horseback rides from mile 42.5 on Skyline Drive. The one-hour route crosses the drive, passes Limberlost and goes through an old apple orchard. Choose it for an unhurried ride through the woods, not for a fast ride or a viewpoint.
Rides are seasonal, usually May through October, and depend on weather. Reservations are required. The currently listed rider rules set a 4-foot-10 minimum height and a limit under 250 pounds; open-toed shoes and high heels are not allowed. Confirm the requirements when you reserve. Pony rides are mentioned in some listings, but their current availability is unclear, so check before planning around one.
Riders often praise the calm horses and guides who help newer riders settle in. Expect a walking pace and mostly wooded scenery; if you want an overlook, make a separate stop elsewhere along Skyline Drive. The appeal here is seeing the Limberlost area and old orchard on horseback.
