Parking
Start at Limberlost Parking Area on Skyline Drive, mile 43. The lot is small, reported to fit about 10–12 vehicles. The overlook also has separate roadside access, but starting there skips the Limberlost hike.

Limberlost: An Easier Forest Loop“Up ahead is Limberlost, a forest loop I'd choose for an easier walk rather than a summit view.”

Trail guide
This 3.4-mile out-and-back begins at Limberlost and follows its broad forest path to Crescent Rock Trail, then continues to a rocky overlook with views toward Massanutten Mountain and the valley. Allow about 1.5 to 2 hours; the hike gains roughly 466 feet and is mostly a gentle climb.
The first half-mile is wide, leafy Limberlost trail, with a short boardwalk and frequent benches. At the concrete Crescent Rock marker, turn right onto the narrower trail. It climbs through hemlock and spruce on dirt and gravel, with roots and smooth log steps. Mountain laurel blooms along the Limberlost section in spring.
Just beyond 1.5 miles, the route reaches Skyline Drive. Walk north briefly, then turn left onto the unmarked side road for the overlook. That final road and the short rocky approach are part of the measured round trip. The view opens over the valley toward Massanutten; fractured rock frames the foreground. The rock path is uneven and exposed, with no guardrail, so stay back from the edge.
The separate 1.3-mile Limberlost loop starts at the same parking area and is the easier option if you want a shorter, accessible walk. This overlook hike leaves that loop at the Crescent Rock marker and continues onto narrower, rougher trail. Pets are not allowed on Limberlost, so leave them behind for either route.
