Pullover around milepost 44 on Skyline Drive and you’re at 3,550 feet with a commanding, west-facing vista. Crescent Rock Overlook is loved for its clean sightline to Hawksbill (the park’s highest peak), plus a sweeping look over the Shenandoah Valley.

- On clear days, long views down Buracker Hollow toward the Ida area and out to distant Massanutten.

Wildlife
Keep an eye on the sky—hawks and vultures often ride the afternoon thermals. Forest edge birds chatter around the pullout, and deer are common along the drive.
Best Time to Visit
- Light: West-facing means golden hour and sunset are prime for warm light and layered ridges. Early morning is quieter but more backlit.
- Crowds: Weekdays are calmer. Autumn weekends can be packed during foliage.
- Conditions: Fog can erase the view, and Skyline Drive may close for ice or storms—check conditions before you go.
Practicalities
There are no facilities here—no water, no restrooms. Bring what you need, and mind your footing on the rock outcrops (there’s no guardrail). The parking area is directly off the drive and typically has ample space, but it fills during peak times.
