Llano de Ucanca 1 is a roadside viewpoint off TF-21, looking across the largest flat cañada in Teide National Park. The open plain leads your eye toward Teide and Pico Viejo, with Roques de García and La Catedral rising above its far side. Stop for the scale of the view; this is a quick pull-in rather than a hike. For a photo, put rough volcanic rock or low scrub in the foreground so the plain has a sense of scale.

The plain is not one blank sheet: lava flows partly fill it, with shapes and colors that change with the rock. Water draining the caldera walls also carries loose material down to the basin floor. How Las Cañadas itself formed is still debated, so the most vivid story here is in the layers and landforms you can see.

Pick out La CatedralLa Catedral is a basaltic rock tower that rises nearly 144 meters above the plain.

La Catedral is a basaltic rock tower that rises nearly 144 meters above the plain. Its cooling columns look a little like organ pipes. The view also takes in the Roques de García and the nearby slope known as Los Azulejos, another of the area's striking volcanic features.

The broad, open skyline makes this a worthwhile place to stop for stargazing as well as daytime views. On a clear night, use the dark rock shapes as a foreground and leave room above them for the stars.

The Llano de Ucanca 1 viewpoint is at kilometre 48.7 on TF-21. There is a separate Llano de Ucanca 2 viewpoint farther along, so check the marker if you want this outlook. Expect a modest roadside pull-in rather than a large visitor facility; reports of available parking vary. Keep photo stops within the pull-in and out of the traffic lane.
