PNT 40 Llano de Ucanca to Boca Tauce Trail

The waymarked PNT-40 line runs west from the Llano viewpoint across open plains and lava fields. The route gains about 74 metres and loses about 56 metres over 4.83 kilometres, staying around 2,006–2,037 metres above sea level. It's classed as an easy walk, but it is not accessible to people with reduced mobility. The scenery is the basin and its volcanic edges, not a long climb to a single summit.

One of the route's named landmarks is La Zapatilla de la Reina, a rock formation with the outline of a high-heeled shoe. It gives you a recognizable feature to look for while crossing the broad landscape. At the eastern end, the Llano viewpoint looks across the basin toward the colored cliffs of Los Azulejos; Boca Tauce is another viewpoint at the western finish.

Start at Mirador del Llano de Ucanca on TF-21 near km 48.8 and finish at Boca Tauce viewpoint around km 53.1. Parking is very limited at the start and limited at the finish, and there are no services near the starting viewpoint. This is not a loop: arrange a pickup, check the bus from Boca Tauce, or turn back for about 9.7 kilometres total. No reservation is required for the route.
