The route leaves PNT 04 at El Capricho and climbs an old, winding path to Degollada de Ucanca. The first stretch alone gains nearly 300 m. Expect steep slopes, loose rock and uneven ground, not an easy approach to a viewpoint. The route stays high throughout, between about 2,132 and 2,482 m, so keep a steady pace and leave energy for the ridge and descent.

From the pass, PNT 31 follows the Cumbres ridge above the caldera. Teide and Pico Viejo stand out to the north, while the view opens over the southern slopes beyond the crest. For a photo, keep some of the rough ridge in the foreground so the basin and the height of the route read in the same frame.

The route descends past the short lava tongue called Sombrero de Chasna and ends at Lomo del Asiento / Los Pegueros, where old, twisted Canary Island pines change the feel of the open ridge. The route ends here; continuing downhill toward Vilaflor or branching toward the Las Lajas recreation area adds more walking. Access is free and does not require a reservation. The start is near the Parador and a linked bus stop, but this is point to point: arrange transport from the finish before setting out.
