Trail guide
PNT 32 Abeque is a 2.42 km (1.5 mi) one-way trail from Mirador de Sámara to the lower PNT 09 junction. It takes about 1 hour 50 minutes to walk. This is a traverse, not a loop: the PNT 09 end is a trail junction without road access, so plan your return or onward connection before starting. Retracing Abeque to Sámara makes the walk about 4.8 km (3 mi) and roughly 3 hours 40 minutes.
Most of the way crosses lapilli, with stretches of rough scoria lava and uneven ground. The trail is rated easy, but watch your footing on loose material and the steeper slopes. Follow the dark green PNT 32 markers, especially where other paths meet it. The route is not accessible for people with reduced mobility.
Abeque follows one of the old paths that climbed toward Tenerife's summit. Shepherds and traders used it, and their repeated passage wore lines into the scoria. The route crosses recent volcanic material from nearby cones, so the dark lapilli and lava are part of the story here, not just the ground beneath your shoes.
Open stretches look over southern Tenerife and nearby islands, with a distinctive western angle on Teide and Pico Viejo. At the Sámara end, the dark cone and scattered pines make a useful foreground for the peaks. Start at Mirador de Sámara on TF-38 around km 7.5–7.6. Parking there is limited, and the trailhead has no listed toilets or water. Abeque itself is free to access without a reservation.
