Boca de Tauce Viewpoint

Boca de Tauce is a roadside viewpoint on TF-21 at kilometer 53, looking across the Llano de Ucanca toward Teide and Pico Viejo. For visitors arriving from the south, this is the first chance to take in the whole volcanic pair together. It works best as a quick pause in the mountain-road drive. The parking area is small and can fill, so allow some slack if you are planning to stop.

Lava flows partly fill the plain, and their shapes and colors vary with the type and composition of the rock. Give the ground as much attention as the summits; the different flows are what make this view more than a pair of distant peaks. For a phone photo, keep a strip of rough lava in the foreground with Teide and Pico Viejo above it, so the shot holds the whole volcanic setting.

Narices del Teide erupted on the slope of Pico Viejo in 1798. It was the last eruption within the national park and the longest historic eruption on Tenerife. The flows visible around the plain include different types, so the panorama should not be read as one eruption or one uniform lava field.
