Trail guide
PNT 39 A is a linear 3.91 km (2.43 mi) one-way walk from Majúa, opposite the lower cable-car station, to Montaña Blanca access. It follows a marked path across lava fields and avoids walking beside the TF-21. The park rates it low and lists 50 minutes; allow about an hour. Its 2025 trail map labels this same stage 3.65 km, so plan for roughly four kilometers each way. This does not return you to the station: walking back makes the outing nearly 7.8 km.
The walk crosses volcanic ground rather than a paved path. The park’s route guidance warns about loose rock and uneven surfaces, so follow the green PNT markers and watch your footing. The route stays high, between roughly 2,219 and 2,365 meters. It is short, but if altitude affects you, take a steady pace and leave time for the climb toward Montaña Blanca.
Start at Majúa, opposite the lower cable-car station on TF-21 near kilometer 43. Parking, public toilets, a café and buffet, and a shop are at the station before you set out, not along the trail. PNT 39 A ends at Montaña Blanca access. Arrange a pickup there or retrace the path; it is a point-to-point route, not a loop.
