More about Teide Legend Visitors’ Centre

Teide Legend Visitors’ Centre is a compact indoor exhibition inside the Teleférico del Teide base station, on TF-21 at kilometre 43. Its permanent Science and Legend show tells Teide’s story through Guanche tradition and volcanology; allow about 20 minutes. It’s a useful stop if you want some context for the volcano, whether or not you plan to ride the cable car. Exhibition entry is sold separately, while a cable-car ticket includes it.

One eruption, two accountsThe exhibition is staged like a lava tube, with images, video and a short film.

The exhibition is staged like a lava tube, with images, video and a short film. Guanche characters such as Guayota and Achamán carry the traditional account alongside the scientific explanation of the eruption that formed Teide’s present peak about 1,000 years ago. That pairing is the reason to come: the mountain outside makes more sense when you’ve heard both stories.

A glimpse of Guanche lifeThe displays also explain how the island’s first inhabitants used Teide’s volcanic resources.

The displays also explain how the island’s first inhabitants used Teide’s volcanic resources. Look for the replica of a Guanche mummy and the explanation of how it was preserved; it gives the exhibition a human detail beyond the volcano story.

The route leads past the souvenir shop to the café-restaurant, which serves local-product dishes as well as simpler rolls and coffee. Large windows look across the national park, making the café a pleasant indoor stop even if you skip the cable-car ride. Public toilets are part of the visitor-centre facilities, and the base-station car park has 220 spaces.
