Trail guide
PNT 39 B is a 3.14 km (1.95 mi) one-way trail from the Montaña Blanca access to Minas de San José. It skirts the base of the Montaña Blanca dome and crosses the lava fields. Allow about 50 to 75 minutes, and plan a return between the two endpoints. This is the short Montaña Blanca–Minas leg; PNT 39 from the cable-car area is a separate, longer hike.
The route uses a narrow hiking path through open volcanic ground, with gravel on much of the mapped crossing and a series of short rises and dips. It stays above 2,200 m, so the altitude can add effort even though the trail is rated low difficulty. No water service was confirmed along the way; carry what you need before leaving the road.
The signature scenery is the contrast between pale pumice at Minas de San José and the darker lava around Montaña Blanca. At the open basin near the Minas end, frame both the light ground and the rough lava blocks with the ridge beyond to show the change in color and texture.
