More about Montaña Blanca Viewpoint

A high view across Las CañadasMontaña Blanca Viewpoint is the walking viewpoint at the summit of Morro de Montaña Blanca,…

Montaña Blanca Viewpoint is the walking viewpoint at the summit of Morro de Montaña Blanca, high on Teide’s flank. From about 2,740 m, you get a broad look across almost all of Las Cañadas and toward Tenerife’s southern slopes. I’d add it if you’re already taking on this mountain route; the open summit panorama is the payoff, but this is not a roadside pullout.

Plan the whole approachThe 1.45 km PNT 07.1 spur takes about 25 minutes one way and branches from PNT 07.

The 1.45 km PNT 07.1 spur takes about 25 minutes one way and branches from PNT 07. From the TF-21 trail start, that junction is about 4.6 km along PNT 07, so there’s a substantial walk before the spur begins. PNT 07 has its own checkpoint and access requirements; don’t assume the spur’s rules cover the whole approach. Check the current requirements for your route. The spur is rated high difficulty and has loose rock, uneven ground and steep sections. It is not accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Read the volcanic landscapeMontaña Blanca’s pale pumice is evidence of explosive eruptions.

Montaña Blanca’s pale pumice is evidence of explosive eruptions. On the longer PNT 07 approach, look for giant accretion balls near Teide’s foot: fragments of magma thrown from the volcano that rolled down its slope and settled there. Those formations belong to the approach, not the viewpoint summit.

Frame the calderaThe main photo is the wide sweep over Las Cañadas.

The main photo is the wide sweep over Las Cañadas. Keep some of Montaña Blanca’s pale pumice ground in the foreground so the darker Teide slopes read against the much larger caldera beyond.
