Talinguṟu Nyakunytjaku

Talinguṟu Nyakunytjaku is the park’s main place to watch sunrise over Uluṟu, set among the dunes with shelters, viewing platforms and walking tracks. At dawn, light appears over the dunes behind the platforms before it reaches Uluṟu. It’s a defining park view, and the different angles give you more to do than stand in one spot and wait.

The main platforms are busiest at dawn, when people gather to watch the rock catch the light. If you want the sunrise itself, arrive with time to choose a position. If the crowd puts you off, take one of the paths for a quieter view; sunset is another good visit, with far fewer people around the viewing area.

There are two short interpretive loops. The Minymaku Walk is 1 kilometre and about 30 minutes; the Watiku Walk is 1.5 kilometres and about 45 minutes. Both are marked wheelchair accessible, and both welcome women and men. Take one if you have time to turn a quick sunrise stop into a closer look at the country around the platforms.

The Minymaku Walk shares women’s work and knowledge, including preparing bush foods and children’s games. The Watiku Walk focuses on men’s work, including making tools and using fire to hunt. Together, the tracks offer a glimpse of the knowledge Aṉangu have carried in this landscape; they’re for all visitors, not gender-restricted walks.

For the clearest view of both Uluṟu and Kata Tjuṯa, follow the lower track to the second shelter. The park’s suggested composition includes a tree in the foreground, which gives the wide desert view a sense of place. Some trees interrupt the sightline from particular spots, so walk on until you find an angle that opens up.
