Walkatjara Art is the Muṯitjulu community’s Aṉangu-owned studio and gallery inside the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre. Browse original paintings, and if artists are working, you may be able to watch them paint and hear about the work from people who know it. That conversation is the reason to linger, but artists aren’t there every time.

The gallery is one part of the larger Cultural Centre, alongside its exhibits, information displays and tunnel. Allow about two hours for the whole centre; that’s not a two-hour expectation for this gallery alone. The centre is a 10–15 minute drive from the park entry station along the road to Uluru.
The Ininti café is also at the Cultural Centre and is the park’s only place to buy food or drinks. It’s a separate stop from the gallery.

Walkatjara combines walka, meaning designs or meaningful marks, with tjara, meaning having. The paintings draw on local Tjukurpa and desert life. Some stories are shared with visitors where appropriate, so let the artists and staff guide what they can explain.
Who the work supportsWalkatjara is a not-for-profit community enterprise.
Walkatjara is a not-for-profit community enterprise. Artists receive half the sale price of a painting; the rest goes back into the art centre and Muṯitjulu community projects, including creative work, training and employment.
