Cinnamon Bay Campground

Cinnamon Bay Campground is the park's designated reservation-only overnight campground on St. John's North Shore. Its options range from bare sites to eco-tents and cottages, with a short walk to Cinnamon Bay Beach. It suits visitors who want a night near the water and historic paths; plan around a shared campground and public beach, not a private beachfront stay.

Park camping is by reservation. On site, the Rain Tree Cafe offers breakfast and dinner, a food truck serves lunch with cold drinks and ice cream, and a camp shop sells groceries. Shared bathrooms and showers are available. Tent sites can be close together; if a quieter spot matters, ask about placement before booking. The campground is off Northshore Road on St. John. From St. Thomas, the trip continues by ferry to St. John, then road transport from Cruz Bay.

The bay's long, gently sloping shore makes a beach day easy, and clear water means snorkeling can be part of it even for beginners. The beach is shared with day visitors, so do not expect private sand during the day. Snorkeling experiences vary; treat the underwater part as a bonus rather than the only reason to come.

Across Northshore Road from the campground entrance, the easy half-mile Cinnamon Bay Nature Loop passes plantation ruins and a boardwalk. Bay-rum trees along the route were once used to make St. John Bay Rum Cologne, adding a small botanical detail to a walk that brings the island's history close to camp.

Taíno people settled around Cinnamon Bay, and the park's history timeline records a Taino temple excavation that began here in 1998. During Danish colonial rule, enslavers established a plantation and forced enslaved Africans to work it. Cultivation began shortly after 1717, and the stone sugar factory dates to the last quarter of the 18th century; its ruins are part of the nature-loop visit.
