The payoff is cumulative rather than one big view: the river, the field pattern of walls and barns, the famous hay meadows and the historic stone buildings of the valley, with the audio stops explaining what you are looking at, including the story behind the local walk known as the Corpse Way. The Keld and Corpse Road walk itself is a separate outing on a different route.
This is the main thing to plan for: it is a long valley circuit, not a short stroll. There is no summit, but the ground undulates steadily between riverside level and higher field paths, and you are on mixed surfaces all day: grass field paths through walled enclosures, stony tracks, bridleway, and short stretches of road or service lane. Expect stiles, gates, wall gaps and uneven, sometimes soft ground. Not wheelchair accessible.
Field-path junctions come up often and the walking is a chain of rights of way rather than one continuous path, so carry the official audio trail map and keep track of the numbered stops. Ramps Holme Bridge and Ivelet Bridge are useful confirmation points that you are on the mapped line.
Strongest along the Swale between Muker and Ivelet, on the path out of Muker toward Ramps Holme Bridge, and at the bridges themselves. Meadows, drystone walls, field barns and the village rooftops give you close-range subjects rather than wide summit panoramas.
