Parking
Use the Königssee valley access for the Jennerbahn and ride to Bergstation; that upper station is the walking start. The mapped finish returns to the same valley area, a short walk from both the parking area and the valley station.

Trail guide
This is a 6.2-mile walk downhill from Jennerbahn’s mountain station to the Königssee valley. Cross dwarf-pine fields to Carl-von-Stahl-Haus, continue to Schneibsteinhaus, descend to Königsbachalm, then follow the Hochbahnweg through pasture and woods. The mapped finish is in the valley access area, a few minutes’ walk from both the parking area and the cable-car station.
The walk gains about 155 m and loses 1,333 m. Its published walking estimate is 3 hours 20 minutes; allow closer to four hours with breaks. Ride Jennerbahn from the valley to the mountain station first—the lift ride is not part of the hiking distance.
Carl-von-Stahl-Haus stands at Torrener Joch, at 1,736 m on the Germany–Austria border. From there, continue to Schneibsteinhaus before turning downhill. A separate 30-minute climb to Pfaffenkegel passes through dwarf pine and ends in a short cable-secured scramble, with views toward Schneibstein and Hagengebirge; that detour is outside the mapped route.
Königsbachalm is a seasonal stop for Brotzeit. Marmots, known locally as “Mankein,” burrow in the alpine meadows close to the path. Cattle graze there too, so keep dogs on a lead in the national-park sections and give the animals space. The hut at Stahlhaus also has dining and overnight accommodation.
The Hochbahnweg alternates between alpine pasture and woods, with repeated openings toward Königssee. When the lake appears, include a stretch of trail in the frame: the path itself helps show how far this route drops from the ridge to the valley. The long descent is the main effort; it can be tiring on knees and ankles.
