Mitterkaseralm am Jenner is a traditional alpine pasture turned mountain restaurant at about 1,530 m, above Königssee and below Jenner. It makes most sense as a real pause on a hike or on the walk down from the Jennerbahn summit station, not as a quick roadside stop. If you're already on this side of the mountain, stay for a proper meal or a slice of cake.

The hut has a large outdoor sun terrace and an indoor Almstube. The kitchen serves Bavarian specialties with regional ingredients, and the cakes are made in-house. Save room for cake if you're stopping for lunch. The hut is seasonal; check its current opening information before making a meal here the hinge of your day. Bring cash, since cards aren't accepted, and know that dogs have to stay outside the building because indoor space is limited.

Reach it on footFrom Jennerbahn's summit station, the hut is about a 30-minute downhill walk.

From Jennerbahn's summit station, the hut is about a 30-minute downhill walk. From the Hinterbrand parking area, the faster route via Jennerwiese and Krautkaser takes about 1¼ hours; the longer Königsweg via the middle station takes around 1½ hours and is described as the easier option. Check the cableway schedule if you're relying on the top-station approach. Visitors reach the hut on foot; the operator gives no public drive-up approach.

Before it became a restaurant, the Mitterkaseralm was summer grazing land for cattle from Klauslehen farm in Bischofswiesen. Max Resch opened the mountain restaurant in 1955; locals called him “Klaus Maxei,” and that name stuck to the hut. It was enlarged in 1972, and his grandson Sepp Resch took over the alpine business in 2015.

In winter, the hut serves ski tourers and sledders as a rest stop in the Jenner ski area. Since winter 2024/25, the Jennerhex toboggan run has ended at Mitterkaser. That route depends on natural snow and lift operations, so think of it as a seasonal bonus rather than year-round access.
