The Königsblick is the purpose-built lookout just below Jenner summit, at about 1,874 m, with a direct view down Königssee. It is a worthwhile stop if you are taking the cable car to the mountain station; the platform is separate from the station and sits about 550 m away. Allow around 20 minutes each way for the walk, which climbs 74 m.

It is short but uphill, with steps and rough ground underfoot; sturdy shoes help. The cable car, stations and restaurants are accessible, but this summit approach is not wheelchair-accessible. The operator closes the summit path in winter because of fall risk and recommends its 360-degree panorama route around the station instead.

From the platform, the lake runs for more than 8 km between steep mountain walls, with Watzmann dominating the view and the white pilgrimage church of St. Bartholomä on the shore. Königssee is up to 1.2 km wide and 192 m deep. Looking lengthwise makes clear why it can feel like a fjord.

Point the camera down the lake and keep some of the nearby rock and mountain walls in the frame; they give the water a sense of depth. Haze and cloud can hide the far peaks, so the full panorama depends on visibility. The popular deck can also feel busy on weekends and holidays.

Jenneralm, beside the summit station, serves hot meals. The station also has a free national park exhibition about alpine plants and wildlife. Both are at the cable car station, before the separate uphill walk to the platform.

The mountains beneath the viewJenner belongs to the Northern Limestone Alps.

Jenner belongs to the Northern Limestone Alps. The region's high peaks include Dachstein limestone over Ramsau dolomite; fossil megalodont shells remain in the limestone. These rocks began as marine deposits in the ancient Tethys Sea about 200 million years ago, before continental movement folded and lifted them into the Alps roughly 140 million years ago.
