Guide
Lincoln's Rock is a broad natural sandstone platform on the Wentworth Falls escarpment, looking across the forested Jamison Valley to the long cliffs opposite. It is a natural ledge rather than a built viewing deck; the open panorama and rock-edge setting are what make it stand out. For a photo, keep a strip of pale rock in the foreground to show the valley's scale, and stay on stable ground.
The sandstone is uneven, and there are no barriers along the edge. Keep well back from the drop and close to children; the classic cliff-edge poses in photos are risky to copy. People who want a fenced viewing platform or feel uneasy near a sheer edge may prefer another lookout. Low cloud can cover the valley and hide the view.
The lookout was named for Lincoln Hall, a mountaineer who lived in Wentworth Falls. In 2006, after Hall was left for dead high on Mount Everest, another climbing team found and rescued him the following day. Before the current name, local names included Flat Rock, Honeymoon Rock and Wedding Rock.
