Overview

About Lakeview Lookout

Why stop

  • Big valley-and-lake panorama from a short walk
  • Quieter alternative to the Pinnacle

Heads up

  • Rocky, sandy approach with exposed edges
  • Carpark can be busy on fine weekends
Lakeview Lookout is the easy-going viewpoint on the Lakeview Lookout Loop, a short walk from Sundial Carpark in the Wonderland Range. From the open rock ledge, the view runs over Fyans Valley and Lake Bellfield toward the Mount William (Duwul) Range. It gives you much of the visual reward associated with the Pinnacle without committing to the longer climb.

Before you go

Best time to go

Spring is the standout season for wildflowers. Early morning is a good choice for softer light, a chance at sunrise, and a quieter feel. Lakeview is often calmer than the Pinnacle, but the shared carpark and approach can become busy on fine weekends and long weekends.

Getting there

Start at Sundial Carpark and follow the wide, sandy track through tussock grass and boulders. The loop is about 1.8 km and usually takes roughly 30 to 60 minutes, depending on how often you stop. The loop via Devils Gap is best walked anti-clockwise, returning to the carpark at the Pinnacle Track junction. There are no facilities at the lookout itself; the carpark is the practical place for parking and basic drop toilets. Dogs are not allowed.

More about Lakeview Lookout

What to expectThis is a short walk, not a smooth promenade.

This is a short walk, not a smooth promenade. Expect an unpaved track with sand, uneven boulders, rocky steps, and exposed edges near the viewpoint. Wear shoes with good grip, take care when the rock is wet, and keep children close to the edge. The rough surface makes it a poor fit for a stroller or anyone who needs a smooth, level path. Bring water and allow time to stop for the valley, lake, wildflowers, and birds along the way.
