This roadside overlook sits around 3,285 feet on a broad, open hilltop with wide, unobstructed views across the Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge. What makes it different

Unlike many tree-framed overlooks, this one is a true grassy knoll—plenty of room to wander, sit, or set up a picnic blanket without feeling pinned against the guard wall. The view faces west–northwest, so the light gets better and better as the afternoon rolls on.

According to the National Park Service, this spot once tied into the area’s ranching past—the mountains here were used for grazing before the park was created. You’re looking out over a landscape shaped by that history, even if nature has reclaimed most of the signs.
