Trail guide
Sendero PNT 27 Montaña Rajada is a 2.14 km (1.33 mi) point-to-point route from PNT 07 to PNT 06, skirting Montaña Blanca and Montaña Rajada. It crosses pumice-covered ground and gives views of both volcanic domes. The route is rated low difficulty, with 36 m of climbing and 132 m of descent. Official time estimates range from 45 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes; allow about an hour to 75 minutes for this segment, plus the walk in and whatever you need to reach your finish.
Start at the PNT 07 junction and follow the marked line north to its meeting with PNT 06, between Montaña de Los Conejos and Montaña de Los Tomillos. This is a connector, not a loop: the stored distance covers one crossing only. To return the way you came, retrace it for a 4.28 km (2.66 mi) total, before adding the approach from the road. Otherwise, plan an onward route from PNT 06.
The trail crosses pumice left by Montaña Blanca's explosive eruptions, with the brown dome of Montaña Rajada close by. The park describes views of both peaks; the changing volcanic shapes are the reason to walk this short link rather than treat it as a simple transfer. The exact mix of pumice and gravel varies, but expect loose stones and uneven ground. Stay on the marked path.
The PNT 27 start is reached on foot from PNT 07. The PNT 07 route starts at Montaña Blanca Viewpoint on TF-21, km 40.2, where parking is limited; from there the PNT 27 junction is about 0.8 km along the trail. The other end is also foot-only, on PNT 06, so decide your return or onward connection before you set out. PNT 27 itself is free and requires no reservation, while PNT 07 has separate access rules for its ascent; check the rules for the approach you plan to use.
