Huevos del Teide

Huevos del Teide are giant rounded volcanic boulders scattered across the pale slopes of Montaña Blanca below Teide. They lie on the PNT-07 Montaña Blanca–La Rambleta route, so they make sense as a geology stop during the high-mountain hike, not a quick pullout.

The dark rocks stand out against light pumice and reddish ground. They are accretion balls: volcanic fragments that rolled downslope and gathered material into rounded boulders. Accounts differ on whether the fragments came from Teide’s vent or broke away from a lava flow, so their exact origin story is unsettled.

PNT-07 is a strenuous linear climb to La Rambleta; the full route is listed at 8.29 km with about 1,309 m of ascent. The route requires prior authorization and a mandatory high-mountain equipment list, so check both before setting out. The exact viewing point along the route is not pinned down; count the boulders as an on-trail feature, not a separate roadside stop. Wear mountain footwear, bring warm layers and water, and stay on the marked path.

Look for the almost-black rounded boulders against the pale volcanic ground, with darker lava on the slope behind them. A frame that includes both the rock and the light hillside makes their shape stand out. They are said to look more impressive farther up the trail, so take time to notice them as the route climbs.
