Start on the short dirt connector to Merewether Lane Fire Trail, then follow the Wollangambe River signs. Dogs aren’t allowed in this national park.

The opening alternates a flat path through tree ferns with a broader fire trail that climbs briefly. After the signed turns, the track narrows to clear dirt with flatter stretches between descents. Stairs begin around 1.6 km. Around 2 km, the path passes sandstone pagodas over a short rocky section. The final approach is bushier and steeper, and the same drop becomes the climb back to Mount Wilson.

The view before the waterAn open lookout appears on the left near 2.9 km.

An open lookout appears on the left near 2.9 km. Sandstone shelves and forested gorge walls make this the walk’s best broad view. Pause on the way down and frame some of the rock ledge with the forest so the gorge’s depth reads in a photo.

Turn around at the riverThe walk reaches a sandy riverbank; that’s the turnaround for this route.

The walk reaches a sandy riverbank; that’s the turnaround for this route. It doesn’t include the swims, deep canyon pools or separate exit track of a canyon trip. There’s no food or drinking water along the walk. A public toilet is reported beside the fire station, with none on the track.
