Two Medicine Lake and South Shore“Two Medicine Lake is ahead, with Sinopah Mountain rising across the water. You can enjoy that view from the developed shore without taking on a big hike, so I’d stop here even for a short visit.”

Trail guide
Aster Park Trail is a 4-mile round-trip out-and-back from Two Medicine’s South Shore Trailhead to an open overlook above the lake and valley. The route covers 2 miles each way with about 670 feet of elevation gain. Plan on about three hours with time at the top. The lower approach is a forest walk past ponds; most of the climbing comes on the final three-quarters of a mile. This is a good pick when you want a real climb and a wide view without giving up the whole day.
Start near the Two Medicine boat dock and follow the South Shore Trail. A short branch reaches Paradise Point and its gravel beach; stay on the main trail for Aster Park. At about 1.1 miles, cross Aster Creek and reach the Aster Park junction. Aster Falls is a separate, short side trip near here. The overlook route turns onto the Aster Park spur and climbs more than 500 feet over roughly three-quarters of a mile. That last stretch is the effort of the hike, so decide at the junction whether the view is worth it for your group.
If you want a shorter outing, Aster Falls is listed at 1.2 miles one way from the South Shore Trailhead. The 4-mile Aster Park distance does not include the Paradise Point or waterfall detours.
The trail comes out onto a rocky, open slope with a broad look over the Two Medicine valley. Two Medicine Lake sits below; Flinsch Peak, Dawson Pass, and Rising Wolf Mountain make up the skyline. When visibility is good, Flinsch Peak’s sharp pyramid shape is easy to pick out: it is a glacial horn, carved as glaciers eroded several sides of the mountain. For a photo, keep some of the bare rocky foreground in frame with the lake beyond it; that shows the exposed, open setting of the viewpoint.
The approach passes small beaver ponds and meadow openings among lodgepole pine, spruce, and Douglas-fir. Moose are often seen feeding around the ponds, especially in the morning and late afternoon, though a sighting is never something to count on. Keep to the trail and give wildlife room.
Use the South Shore Trailhead at Two Medicine Lake, near the boat dock. The named overlook route starts from this south-side access; Paradise Point is an optional early branch, and Aster Falls is a separate spur near the main climb. Dogs are not allowed on Glacier’s trails. The steep final climb is the main physical challenge; the mapped line follows the trail to the overlook and stores the out-and-back corridor once.
