Dundo Overlook

Dundo Overlook is a pullout on Skyline Drive at 2,769 feet, facing west-northwest across the Shenandoah Valley. The southern end of Massanutten Mountain sits to the right, with Harrisonburg beyond its tip. This is a quick pause at the view itself, not a hike to a distant feature.

Massanutten Mountain is the long ridge that divides the Shenandoah Valley and splits the Shenandoah River. From here, follow its southern end and look beyond it toward Harrisonburg. For a photo, keep some of the shrub line in the foreground; the overlapping ridges and valley can otherwise flatten into a single blue horizon.

An interpretive panel at the overlook points to Jackson’s Valley Campaign of 1862. The campaign used the Shenandoah Valley’s terrain as Confederate forces drew Union troops away from Richmond. Looking from the ridge toward the valley makes that geography easier to picture.

The official mile listing is 83.7, though some maps place the overlook slightly differently; use its name if your map’s milepost does not line up. Treat it as a view stop rather than a service stop: no restroom or drinking water is listed for this pullout. The sightline is framed by roadside foliage, not a bare summit edge.
