Compared to some tree-pinched overlooks, this one feels more panoramic. It’s also generally calmer than the busy northern viewpoints, making it a nice breather on a southbound drive.
Photography & Light
The overlook faces west, so late afternoon through sunset is prime—warm side light, long shadows, and those blue layers deepening toward dusk. After a rain, haze drops and visibility jumps.
Wildlife
Like much of Skyline Drive, keep an eye out for deer and soaring raptors taking advantage of thermals across the open view. Bring binoculars if you have them.
