Guide
A roadside overlook on Skyline Drive, Sawmill Run faces southwest from about 2,200 feet through a small opening toward distant mountains. Sawmill Ridge rises to the right toward Turk Mountain; Sawmill Run lies ahead where the ridge descends. This is a quick pull-off, but vegetation obscures the view for much of the year, so the opening can be modest or screened.
If the foliage leaves the view open, look for the ridge on the right and the distant layers beyond it. The shrubs along the overlook make a useful foreground for a photo; keep the southwest-facing opening in the frame rather than treating this as a broad, unobstructed panorama.
Augusta County funded maintenance of the view through Shenandoah National Park Trust's Adopt an Overlook program. The work helps keep this small viewing window open, though it cannot prevent vegetation from hiding it during much of the year.
