Los Azulejos: The Colored Rocks“You're nearing Los Azulejos Viewpoint, where pale green, turquoise and tan rocks sit above Llano de Ucanca. Stop for a closer look at the colors: contact with very hot water changed the rock itself.”

Trail guide
El Filo Trail (PNT 08) is an 8.82-mile (14.2 km) point-to-point walk along the eastern edge of Las Cañadas, from TF-24 at kilometer 38.5 to Degollada de Guajara. Almost the whole route follows an old forest track, with wide views into the volcanic caldera and south over pine-covered slopes. Allow about seven hours; this is a high-altitude day out, not a short viewpoint walk.
The route climbs 728 m in total to a high point of 2,508 m, then descends 587 m to 2,252 m at the pass. It is rated medium, but the length, altitude and stony sections make this a serious day walk. Expect a demanding climb near Montaña Pasajirón before the descent into Degollada de Guajara.
The line follows the wall of Las Cañadas, with the volcanic interior on one side and forested slopes toward the south on the other. The landscape changes along the rim: open, rocky ground gives way to dark pinewood below. The payoff is the long sequence of views, rather than one summit or a single overlook.
Degollada de Guajara is the end of PNT 08, not the Parador. The pass connects with other routes; continuing to the Parador by route 5 takes about two and a half more hours. Keep that extension separate from the 8.82-mile El Filo distance.
Start at TF-24 kilometer 38.5. The route information does not establish whether there is a formal lot or how much parking is available there. Arrange a pickup or another transfer at Degollada de Guajara before setting out; this walk does not return to the start. No authorization is required for PNT 08. The ridge is exposed, with strong winds reported, and high-mountain weather can change quickly; seasonal ice or snow is possible. Carry enough food and water for a seven-hour walk.
