“You're nearing Haulover, where two pebble beaches sit on opposite sides of East End Road. Come for snorkeling around boulders and coral rather than lounging on sand.”

North Haulover is a small pebble beach on St John's north shore at Haulover, reached by a short walk from East End Road. It's a snorkeling stop, not a soft-sand beach day: the rocky shoreline gives way to boulders and coral offshore. This is the north-side beach, separate from South Haulover across the road.

Look for the short trail on the north side of East End Road; the National Park Service notes some roadside parking in the Haulover area. Expect pebbles and rock underfoot at the water's edge. Water shoes make the entry more comfortable, especially if you're planning to snorkel.

The reef and the viewThe nearshore rocks turn into boulders and coral, with fish and other marine life in the water.

The nearshore rocks turn into boulders and coral, with fish and other marine life in the water. The west side is the stronger bet for snorkeling, though wind and waves can change conditions. From shore, look across Sir Francis Drake Channel toward Tortola. For a beach photo, keep the pale pebbles in the foreground and include the curve of the wooded coast; a frame of open water alone misses the character of this rocky bay.
