Before you go

Follow the accessible spur

A nearly level path connects the viewpoint to circular stone tagorores, where visitors can sit. The park lists it as a low-difficulty, accessible route of 310 m and about 10 minutes. It also connects to PNT-14, a separate longer loop around the cone and into its crater; that loop is not accessible for visitors with reduced mobility.

Alto de Guamaso is a roadside viewpoint beside Montaña de Guamaso, a 2,151 m volcanic cone. It’s a worthwhile quick break for the pine-filled upper Orotava Valley and Teide on the horizon. The short path to the stone circles gives you a reason to get out beyond the roadside look.

The cone formed from accumulated volcanic material, and large volcanic bombs are scattered across its slopes. Canary Island pine forest gives way to high-mountain scrub here. Look west toward Teide above the valley; on some days trade-wind clouds fill the valley below. For a photo, include the pine line against Guamaso’s reddish slope so the shot shows both the vegetation change and the volcanic ground.
