Roque del Caramujo Viewpoint

Roque del Caramujo is a roadside viewpoint above the Orotava Valley, with a path that takes you to the rock itself. It works well as a brief pause around km 39.8–40, especially if you want a wide view without committing to a hike. Parking spaces are at the viewpoint, and the route is free with no reservation.

The low-difficulty route is adapted for visitors with reduced mobility. Tenerife ON lists it at 200 m, while the park viewpoint guide says 263 m, so allow roughly 200–260 m to the benches, then return the same way. The route listing estimates five minutes and gives an average path width of 1.5 m, with a turning area at the end. No nearby services are listed, so plan this as a short scenic stop.

At the end, the upright Roque sits beside remains of old herders’ huts. From the stone benches, look across the Orotava Valley; visitors also report views of Teide and Izaña Observatory. Walk to the bench area before taking your photo and put the rock in the foreground, so the picture shows where you are instead of only the cloud-filled valley.
