More about Corral del Niño 1 Viewpoint

A short stop on TF-24Corral del Niño 1 is a roadside viewpoint at kilometer 38 of TF-24, in Teide’s Izaña area.

Corral del Niño 1 is a roadside viewpoint at kilometer 38 of TF-24, in Teide’s Izaña area. I’d stop for the open volcanic view, especially around sunset; people also come here to stargaze. Parking is limited and there are no nearby services. Bring a warm layer after dark, and expect cloud to sometimes cover the scene. If stars are the point, check the moon: bright moonlight can wash out the fainter ones.

Look for Cabezón de Izaña’s observatory towers on one side, then follow the open ground toward Llano de El Río and the dark volcanic cones beyond. Those cones are Siete Fuentes, which erupted in 1704, and Fasnia, which erupted in 1705. For a photo, include the observatory towers with the distant cones; together they show the working observatory and the volcanic landscape in one frame.

A second lookout nearbyCorral del Niño 2 is a separate viewpoint about 200 meters west, by the track entrance.

Corral del Niño 2 is a separate viewpoint about 200 meters west, by the track entrance. It has a different angle toward Teide’s eastern flank, La Fortaleza and La Palma on the horizon. Treat it as another stop, rather than part of the TF-24 viewpoint itself.
