PNT 17 Igueque Trail

PNT 17 Igueque is a 1.65-mile (2.65-km) point-to-point walk from TF-24 km 33.4 to Mirador La Crucita at km 30.1. It circles Montaña de Igueque before heading toward Montaña la Negrita, with views opening to both sides of Tenerife. Allow about 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 55 minutes; the route is short, but the official grade is medium and the track loses more elevation than it gains. Since the ends are different, arrange your return before setting off.

The route begins by circling Montaña de Igueque (2,273 m), then continues toward Montaña la Negrita (2,245 m) through high mountain scrub. Look for large volcanic bombs scattered along the way. The ground can be loose and uneven, with steep slopes, so take care with your footing and stay on the marked PNT-17 route. The mapped line rises about 72 m and descends about 313 m, from roughly 2,216 m at the start to about 1,991 m at the finish.

La Crucita is both the route’s finish and a crossing on the well-used footpath between the Güímar and Orotava valleys, part of the pilgrimage route to the Virgin of Candelaria. From here the southern view looks over Güímar Valley; northward, Orotava Valley can sit beneath a sea of clouds. Canary Island pines become more frequent near this end. For a photo, frame the volcanic slopes and dark cone with the pines rather than filling the picture with only sky and distant coast.

Start on TF-24 at km 33.4. The official route information lists no parking spaces at this access; the finish at Mirador La Crucita, km 30.1, has very limited parking. Plan a drop-off or vehicle transfer instead of assuming you can park at either end. No nearby services are listed at the start or finish. The walk is free and needs no reservation, but it is not accessible to people with reduced mobility.
