Trail guide
PNT 20 Volcán de Fasnia is an approximately 8.2-km (5.1-mile) circuit from Corral del Niño around a cluster of volcanic cones in Teide National Park. It climbs and drops about 224 m, reaches roughly 2,327 m, and takes about 2½–3 hours. The route is rated easy and suits a longer highland walk without a summit climb.
Start and finish at Corral del Niño Viewpoint on TF-24 near kilometer 38. Parking there is limited, and there are no nearby services. The route information doesn't identify toilets, drinking water, or food, so plan supplies before you arrive. Ordinary access is free and doesn't require a reservation.
The loop first approaches four older cones: Montaña de la Carnicería, Volcán de Enmedio, Montaña de Abreu, and Montaña de Las Vacas. Their varied colors give way to the dark Fasnia cones later in the walk. The loop returns to Corral del Niño when you finish.
The younger Volcán de Fasnia cones formed during the January 1705 eruption. Their intensely black volcanic rock is the route's defining contrast with the older, more colorful cones around them.
Dense broom thickets are used by local beekeepers for prized broom honey, and the bees pollinate the area's plants. The route description names Teide sticky broom (codeso), hierba pajonera, and rosalillo de cumbre as common shrubs. Kestrels, Berthelot's pipits, chiffchaffs, and spectacled warblers are reported as frequent birds in the area.
The climb and descent are each about 224 m. The park's safety guidance flags loose rocks, uneven ground, and steep slopes; this trail is listed as inaccessible to people with reduced mobility. Expect to watch your footing rather than count on a smooth surfaced path.
