Hiking Transit of Venus walking track

This roughly 4 km loop from the Woodbury Street car park links Mabel, Edith and Hazel falls through shaded lower-mountain forest. It begins on a fire trail, descends a narrow track with built steps, then follows bush paths between the falls and an uphill return spur. Allow about 2 hours for the circuit with stops. The cascades are small, and their flow is strongest after rain.

From Woodbury Street to Mabel FallsThe wide track reaches a gate after about 200 m.

The wide track reaches a gate after about 200 m. Beyond it, the tread narrows and drops through several stair sections to the Mabel Falls turn-off, roughly 550 m from the gate. Follow the short ferny spur about 150 m each way to a cascade over a rock overhang and a green pool. Return to the junction before continuing along the main track.

Edith FallsThe way to Edith Falls is not consistently signed.

The way to Edith Falls is not consistently signed. Continue along the narrow bush track, cross the creek and follow the route to the falls junction. A short, steep descent leads to terraced sandstone cascades; reaching the pool may involve stepping through water or over boulders. The last section is rough and can be slippery after rain.

From the Edith junction, the route climbs gradually through forest for about 650–700 m to Hazel Falls. The overhang lets you view the water from behind; reaching the lower front requires a creek crossing and some rock scrambling. To close the loop, return to the junction by the falls and take the unsigned uphill path to the fire trail. Follow it back to the Edith junction, then retrace the shared trail to Woodbury Street without repeating the Mabel spur. Carry an offline map for the unsigned turns.

The falls are most rewarding after rain, though wet rocks, stairs and muddy tread make the rougher approaches harder to negotiate. The final descent to Edith is the main footing concern. Pets are not allowed in Blue Mountains National Park; assistance animals working in that role are permitted under park policy.
